Roseanne - Home and Losing to Win!

Rather than start a whole new blog, I thought I would hijack my Malawi blog, in order to capture a journey of somewhat longer duration (three months versus two). Both journeys began rather impulsively - in May 2009, I read a ServiceLink volunteer opportunity in our church bulletin, went home and promptly applied to what turned into a trip to Malawi and Mozambique, to conduct computer training. Prior to my trip, I had successfully whittled myself down several clothes sizes, to a 'willowy' 195 pounds or so. I had also become a regular at GoodLife Fitness, frequently doing a triple header - three exercise classes in a row. Two months away and my exercise regime and waistline both reverted. As then coworker Bill kindly remarked, "You're the first person I have ever heard of who gained weight while in Africa!"

I blame the mango juice...

This time around, I have impulsively signed up for the fifth annual 'Lose to Win' fitness fundraiser, sponsored by Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and Performance Fitness and Training. I decided it would be both fun and non-fattening to record my musings as I, and seventy others, battle for first prize by exercising, losing weight and fund-raising for some new diagnostic imaging equipment.

You can read more about Lose to Win.

Full disclosure - I missed the registration deadline, and when I called to find out more, I misheard and thought the 12 week program cost a mere $25. I rushed down to register only to be told it was $125! Not wanting to come across as a cheapskate in front of a complete stranger, I found myself filling out a form. Only after my payment was processed, did I realize there was a fund-raising component.

I hate fund-raising.

But I plan to win this thing or die-t trying!
